christmas is coming…

advent calendar 2011

This year I drew an Advent Calendar for my son. It’s approximately 13″ x 11″ in size, and was drawn on the saturday after Thanksgiving when we got back to Davis, and were feeling all Christmassy. It has been a big hit, to say the least! Behind the windows are pictures of my son’s favourite things (tv characters, cartoons etc). I drew it on two or three sheets of watercolour paper which I then cut and collaged togather, against a background of black construction paper. It’s all coloured with watercolours and drawn in uniball vision micro pen.

Merry Christmas!!

That’s beautiful and fun – and brings back memories. I used to draw these myself when I was a kid (an older kid of course).

So please post it again when all the doors are open, I want to see what’s inside! Idle minds want to know.

Thanks! I remember I drew some years ago for my sister’s kids, when I was a teenager, and have planned for years to do more but never did, until last weekend. Might be a new tradition…

That’s great! I’m sure your son will love it—and of course, you’ll be making these for several more years. I want to see the pictures behind the doors at the end of the month.

Cheers! Best to leave the pictures to the imagination though. I will make more though, I’m already planning next year’s. This one was inspired partly by seeing Santa Claus on black friday arrive in downtown Santa Rosa on a fire truck (a ladder truck to be precise). I thought, right I’ll draw that on an advent calendar, with the post box I drew last year in the blizzard in Burnt Oak. Plus some little mice in scarves.

This is the coolest, most imaginitive, generous and personalized advent calendar ever! Your son will treasure this for the rest of his life. So amazing, Pete, really. (makes me feel quite the heel for buying mine at TJ’s too!) ; )

This is so magical! How lucky little Luke is to have a Dad who takes the time to make a
    personalized Advent Calendar.
And to think our sons always received the ones filled with waxy chocolates!
The mice remind me of the book I mentioned:”Church Mice at Christmas”!
    Do you know it?
    Happy Holidays!
