long to rain over us

angel & crown

I got out and sketched today – I saw the sunshine – and before long it was raining. I don’t get much opportunity to practise my rain-sketching back in scorching Davis. It’s a good job my paper is for watercolours. I enjoyed walking about in the rain, and with my sketching stool I could sit aywhere: this was drawn beneath the shelter of a theatre awning on st martin’s lane, the angel and crown pub, a very typical old pub in central london. I finished the colour off in the warmth of the ship in wardour street. I’ll post the rest of my sketches later; scanning here is more time-consuming!

Ah rain….what a peaceful relaxing scene. I love rain. Too bad we never have any anymore and are now having mandatory water rationing here. It must be wonderful being back home. Are you showing off the little one to friends and family? What is this “sketching stool” you speak of? I’ve been trying to find a replacement for mine that I left someplace and mine is no longer made.

Cheers! There are more to come. I managed to sketch Hampstead today with my long-trusted sketching buddy.

As for the sketching stool…um, I kinda broke it a bit today, maybe i’m heavier thn in think; might need a trip to sacramento to get another, only ten bucks…fits in the bag…It’s by kikkerman, I think, comes in several colours.

Mandatory water rationing?? Really? Blimey. Even in davis we aren’t getting that; at least, i don’t know, have i been away that long..? Either way, it’s been so dry there i’m not surprised.
