Pancake Day was a success. In otherwords, I had pancakes, proper pancake-day pancakes with lemon and sugar (and one with nutella). My two-year-old excitedly shouted ‘pancake day! pancake day!’ and giggled as I flipped the pancakes up in the air from the pan, but he wouldn’t even eat a nibble. Ah well. I often say that Davis, my current home city, is flat as a pancake, and it is. But it has some nice old houses, like this one on 1st Stret – I have wanted to draw it for ages, and so today at lunchtime (70 degrees warm folks, not bad for winter) I got out and sketched it. I just love that big roof, it’s so ‘America’, it’s so ‘Not Burnt Oak’. I don’t know if it’s a frat house. There are so many on this row I wouldn’t be surprised. Either that or it’s from a horror movie.

I’ve wondered about that place too. According to Google Maps, it’s the offices of Sierra Northern Railroad in Davis. Which seems weird but…there you have it.
Pete, I am a little hesitant to write that I’ve given you a Sunshine Award for bloggers, I am not sure what’s your take on such things. You sketches are an inspiration for me, and I wanted you to know. I realize that you may not feel like playing “blogger award” games, but this was a way for me to acknowledge how much I learn from you and to express my thanks for the your help to me a while back.
If you wish, you can get the image of the award here
post it on your blog, and perhaps give it to other people.
Thank you Alex! That is very humbling! Your work is very very good, so I am honoured. I’m not sure who I’d nominate, there are so many excellent and inspirational sketchers that i follow, but I will say that one person who inspires me a lot at the moment is Stephen Gardner, he’s an absolute genius, especially his drawings in pubs
Preciosa. Me encanta muchisimo tu estilo.
Besujis!!
