I’m the same way! I’ve had enough close calls to know that it’s a possibility, too. Related: In my teenage days, when I was pretty sure I was awesome, I used to leave the string ends on my electric untrimmed and flapping around. How that didn’t result in an E.R. trip, I’ll never know.

I used to do that with my strings too, leave the ends flapping around. Now I cut them so they are short and ridiculously sharp, far more dangerous. I need to learn to cut them shorter.

I too fear stringing guitars. I did actually have a string break on me years ago and it lodged in the nail of my little finger. Not far enough to hurt, but far enough that I had to pull it out. It was my own fault, I was inadvertently tuning my B to an E or something like that. It was interesting though, watching the tiny hole it made move forward as the nail grew out.
