First illustration friday piece i’ve done in a while; theme of ‘sail‘. Now, do I get a Blue Peter badge?
I don’t normally draw boats, or ships (I do draw junk though, ha ha). Like I don’t usually draw cars. I have a problem with them. So I thought I’d give one a go (this one sits docked in San Francisco, at Fisherman’s Wharf). To get past the psychological barrier, I pretended that they were power cables, pylons, telegraph poles, all those street wires I love so much. I’m quite happy with how it came out, and maybe I’ll draw more. Maybe in the future. Perhaps.

Great drawing! I wish I could draw stick figures, and here you are drawing a ship. So jealous.
Hey – love the line work and wash.
I flew through San Francisco last week – an old mate likes saying that ‘sailing is for gentlemen and flying is for peasants’ – thinking about the tight seating on airoplanes and looking at your roomy, fine vessel I would agree. cheers
I visit here often but this sketch was so lovely I had to comment. I admire your ability so much – it makes me try harder at my simple sketches
Funny where we have our blocks and blind spots. My Life Drawing class is a challenge– at least until I start looking at the model’s body as a sort of landscape. Swells here, dents there, shadows over yonder. If looking at a ship as though it were high tension lines works, go for it. Very nice work!!
Very nice boat! I love all the ‘cables’.
What patience! This is wonderful! The line work is amazing! And you deserve whatever prize your little heart desires for this one!

Fantastic! You’ve found a real niche here and I loved your approach. I must try that when I’m faced with a new subject (that is, pretend it’s something else I’m more a acquainted with). Great.
many thanks all! froggylove, there are some stick figures on the deck there..
I love love love all your work!
